It’s like fingernails across a chalkboard when I hear, “This is a lot of money, but…” or “I know you are really busy, but…” The initial comment creates the negative and cracks open the door for someone to automatically be prepared to say no to whatever you are requesting. Thanks to Steeleworker Gary Louie for sending this in. I’ve said this to my kids for years – never start a request with, “You are probably going to say no but…” I have always told them the answer will almost always be NO if you start it that way.
