16 Jan Calm the voice in your head AND be 10% happier
Years ago, I suffered from horrible bouts of vertigo. After dozens of doctors and thousands of dollars, not to mention, MRIs and a host of medical procedures, the diagnosis came down to stress. I was clinching and grinding my teeth so much, 24/7, I was pulling my inner ear and creating my own all day and all night vertigo. Yoga and meditation saved my life, relationships, and career. Not only was the stress gone, so was the lower back pain and my perpetually hunched-up left shoulder. All I had to do was relax. It wasn’t easy, in fact, it took me a good six weeks of yoga classes to finally be able to sit still and ‘quiet the voices.’ I ‘preached’ to anyone who would listen. And most would not.
Count me way more than 10% happier to find 10% Happier: How I Tamed the Voice in My Head, Reduced Stress Without Losing My Edge, and Found Self-Help That Actually Works–A True Story (Amazon) by ABC anchor Dan Harris. Not only is it a great book that parallels my own rock and roll radio story but it also validated what I’ve been trying to tell people all along – learn to meditate. So, either Dan and I (and countless other very successful people) are on to something really cool or we are lunatics. Either way, we are happy…
Watch Dan have a panic attack live on ABC – at least I could hide behind a radio mic:
