A successful cleanse and binge

your-colonIt’s hard to be successful if you’re dead. It’s also hard to enjoy the spoils of success if you’re dead or dying in hospice care. Happy thoughts today huh? In a couple of hours, I will start prep for my every-five-year colonoscopy. Of cancers that affect both men and women, colorectal cancer is the second leading cancer killer in the United States, but it doesn’t have to be. About 9 out of every 10 people whose colorectal cancers are found early and treated appropriately are still alive five years later. (More stats here.) Here are five reasons you should be screened:

  • It’s a quick way to lose on average 5 pounds
  • You can finally binge and catch up on a TV show
  • There’s a really nice nap involved
  • It is covered by insurance in most cases
  • It could save your life

TMI? Too bad. If this makes one person schedule a colonoscopy, I have succeeded today. Happy Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.
